Welcome concerned citizens of the State of Michigan, and especially parents who have experienced or are experiencing our family law courts.

You can make a difference. Here’s how!

First.

Second.

We need to hear from you if the judge in your family law matter did not follow the law or treated you unfairly. We have been working on legislation with the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan that would improve the decisions of the family courts in Michigan. To help us gain the attention of our Michigan legislators, we need your help.

In your family law case, did you:

  1. Believe that the judge did not follow the law?

  2. Feel like the judge did not listen or care about what you had to say?

  3. Have the impression that the judge did not know your case or the law?

If any of these apply to your experience with the family courts, the Family Law Section has created a website to promote our proposed legislation where you can share your story (Stronger Courts For Michigan Families). Click the button below to share your story!

Vote! Vote for judges and legislators who are willing to be educated on family law issues and who are willing to take action to improve the live of our children and families. Start by looking into the backgrounds of those folks on the ballot. Is the person running for judge on the family law bench experienced in family law? Is the person running for a legislative seat backed by family law attorneys, or the Family Law PAC?

Third.

Vote out judges who don’t follow the law! So many times, once a person is put on the bench, they are re-elected because only attorneys in the community know whether the judges are doing a good job or not. The Family Law Section hopes to create a process so we can inform the electorate about which candidates for the family law bench have family law experience and which judges are treating the families in their courtroom with dignity and respect, and correctly interpreting and applying the law.

Fourth.

Contact your legislator and invite them to hear from a variety of family law attorneys - the Family Law Section is one example. The legislators need to hear from attorneys who are not promoting legislation for one particular case, but who instead are advocating for the best interests of the children in this state.

Bad results when judges don’t follow the law do exist. Do you have a similar experience?

The petition “Stop Michigan Family Courts From Enabling Child Abuse” is currently live on change.org.

It highlights a few cases (out of thousands reviewed with the similar results just in Oakland County, Michigan) that illustrate Court bias against mothers in custody cases involving domestic abuse and/or sexual abuse - and their heartbreaking results.
