Welcome, Govenor!

  • First.

Sign into law legislation that has been promoted by the Family Law Section because you can be assured that the legislation has been thoroughly vetted by family law attorneys from around the State of Michigan. Be on the lookout for proposed legislation creating a dedicated family court.

  • Second.

When it is time to appoint a judge to the family law seat, please appoint someone with family law experience. If the attorneys in the community know that the seat is the family law seat, the fact that the chief of the circuit won’t formally commit to calling it the family law seat should not change what you do - appoint an attorney with significant family law experience. For example, attorneys who worked as referees with the Friend of Court have substantial family law experience, as do attorneys actively involved with the Family Law Section. Seek the feedback of the Family Law Section on the judicial candidates you are considering for an open family law seat.
